Product Description

The splitting maul sledge axe is the most powerful and heaviest axe made for splitting logs and large chunks of wood. It has a hardened striking face in the neck and can therefore be used as a sledge or in combination with a splitting wedge. Comes with an edge cover in leather. Made of hickory and hand-forged Swedish steel. The head is attached to the handle using both a wooden and a steel wedge to secure fastening. NOTE: Only sledge axes can withstand use as a sledgehammer.

Incredible quality for this price (my kids will use this some day)
This is a heck of a splitting maul at a great price. Quality is closer to the expensive brand names and far, far better quality than the junk they sell at the big box hardware store (don't buy those, made-in china junk you'll replace it after a year).Pro:- the head is hand-forged in Sweden and it came pretty sharp and ready to split out of the box.- I've also been using it to drive a splitting wedge. No issues.- the handle is a nice hickory, and it's hung correctly with correct grain positioning.- I find this weight to be heavy enough to drive a wedge yet light enough to swing all day.- comes with a very nice little leather sheathCon:- I don't really have a con, but I guess I'd like a tad more swell at the bottom of the handle. Maul handles tend to be like that though.I just finished splitting a cord of wood (mixture of various types) and this thing was a joy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Swedish quality for an affordable price.

Excellent quality for the price. The unique design of the wedge is outstanding. The Husqvarna axes and mauls are not Gransfors quality as far as finish is concerned, but the rounds don’t seem to mind after I touch up the edge a bit. They just keep on splitting. I would recommend getting the long handle version and short handle version. The beefy maul get tiring after a while and the 19” version is amazing at producing kindling.

This maul is a little on the lighter side but is splits wet pine and cottonwood with ease. I have split up to 18in rounds with it and it also drives wedges well. My wedges are starting mushroom but the face on the sledge end is still sharp and pristine. Overall I enjoy the axe and suits my needs well.
