Product Description
The splitting maul sledge axe is the most powerful and heaviest axe made for splitting logs and large chunks of wood. It has a hardened striking face in the neck and can therefore be used as a sledge or in combination with a splitting wedge. Comes with an edge cover in leather. Made of hickory and hand-forged Swedish steel. The head is attached to the handle using both a wooden and a steel wedge to secure fastening. NOTE: Only sledge axes can withstand use as a sledgehammer.

Pro:
- the head is hand-forged in Sweden and it came pretty sharp and ready to split out of the box.
- I've also been using it to drive a splitting wedge. No issues.
- the handle is a nice hickory, and it's hung correctly with correct grain positioning.
- I find this weight to be heavy enough to drive a wedge yet light enough to swing all day.
- comes with a very nice little leather sheath
Con:
- I don't really have a con, but I guess I'd like a tad more swell at the bottom of the handle. Maul handles tend to be like that though.
I just finished splitting a cord of wood (mixture of various types) and this thing was a joy to use.

This thing is a real, noticeable step up from a basic maul. If you're like me and looking for an upgrade, but can't justify a $400 german axe, this is a great choice. Treat yourself.
Only minor complaint: the handle arrived completely unsealed/unfinished/un-oiled.
This isn't the one with the stupid cast makers-mark that caused shattering. The makers-mark is back in the thick un-tempered "hammer" end

But now that I'm getting older, I felt I needed a little help. I watched what video's I could find comparing mauls and decided on the Husqvarna.
After using it for a day, I really like it. Huge difference from the axe. Much less sticking in the roughs. It did take a few swings to get use to the design.
Only con was the grain of the handle was at 45 to the axe head.
I work estimate that I saved a third of the swings compared to using an axe.

The head of the maul is where the business is and this thing DOES THE JOB in spades. The weight is perfectly balanced behind the head and when you really lean into swinging it does not turn or twist at all when it hits. I'm splitting wet pine with a ton of knots in it and I've only had to swing twice once. The edge needs a bit of tuning but is sharp enough for most people right out of the box. No overstrike plate so I'm going to fashion something out of some nice leather.
